President's Message

The members of Sigma Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, welcome you to the chapter’s official website.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is an international service organization founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D. C. in 1908.  It is the oldest Greek – letter organization established by African American college-educated women.

Since 1990, Sigma Pi Omega has served Torrance and the South Bay cities of Los Angeles County with donations to homeless shelters and domestic violence survivors; after school tutoring programs; annual Martin Luther King Day of Service observances; AIDS Walk Los Angeles; volunteering at the Madrona Marsh Preserve; canned food drives and annual scholarships to college-bound high school seniors.

The theme of our International President Dr. Glenda Glover’s administration is “Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service.℠”  From 2018 to 2022, we will address community needs with programs in five target areas – HBCU 4 Life, Women’s Healthcare and Wellness, Building Your Economic Legacy, The Arts! and Global Impact.  Sigma Pi Omega promotes our international platform through collaborative partnerships, dynamic programming and leadership development.

Chapter members continue to show their commitment to service through programming focused on education, health, financial literacy and wellness. Some examples of programming include Zumba classes, playground restoration, community garden projects, soul line dancing activities, breast cancer walks, yoga & meditation classes, financial literacy workshops, college fairs and fundraisers in support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities like Grambling State University.

You are invited to join us at our service projects and workshops as well as community and fundraising events.
